I am expecting a big trade on the draft floor for the Jets this year. Most likely involving Lowry and Ehlers.

I truly believe if you have 7 picks in a draft you use 5 of them in C and D every year.

I am really hoping the Jets take a D man and hoping even more that the big German Dman is on the board

Expectations on draft day:
- will trade one of their round five choices for a sixth and a seventh
- maybe trade some combo of Perrault, Kulikov, Beaulieu, Pionk, (hopefully not Copp) prospect, maybe 2nd rd'er for an upgrade at C or D
- expect them to resign Tyler Myers before draft
- draft one of Kaliyev, Suzuki, Harley, Afanasyev, Vlasic or Lavoie. Hopefully Kaliyev although Suzuki at C is enticing. Assuming Soderstrom, D, is gone by their turn.

P.S. Copp would only be considered because of "Overcharge" as agent. Love Copp and hope he's not even considered! Wouldn't make much sense as C position is a problem.

Yes it would be nice if Seider would fall to us.

The Jets have a great record at the draft table so I expect them to get a good player even at 20. I would like to see the Jets get McMichael. Lavoie or Soderstrom with the pick. The question is will Maurice play any of the Jets draft and develop NHL ready kids or will they be stuck in the press box or the Moose while less skilled players are on the Jets because of Maurice's love of older players. I hope they don't trade Ehlers as the Jets will never get a decent return for him.

Hey Peter,

I was looking at the Jets drafting record outside of the first round since re-location. The Jets have drafted 49 players outside the first round with only 4 of them ever having played over 100 NHL games.

The four players are:
Adam Lowry
Connor Hellebyuck
Nic Petan
Andrew Copp

Outside of Connor Hellebyuck, no player has screamed all-star. I also keep hearing we are a "draft and develop" franchise. I am curious to know where the development is for the players drafted outside the first round.

I would love it if you could prepare an article that compares drafting records of other teams with Winnipeg's outside the first round.

Thanks,

Ultimate Jet

My guesses and feelings.

- they trade Ehlers in a deal that includes us moving up in the draft. I don’t like this!! Would rather trade down to later in round one and acquire extra 2nd

- Jets will NOT re sign Myers, I like this, I like this a lot.

- Perreault will be traded at the draft. I have no real feelings either way

- we are not getting Puljujarvi

- Pesce for Ehlers still has a chance of happening. I’m intrigued by this

I read this somewhere recently for nhl games played for players drafted between rounds 3-7 the Jets were 15th, so middle of the pack. As for our picks in rounds 1-2 I’d say we are good not great. There are almost equal amount of hits as misses. And by misses I count better players that went after our selections

If Ehlers is moved, the window slams shut.
You can’t replace him at anywhere near 6 million, and you would be selling low.
He is easily our best winger, and you have him locked in for his entire prime.
You simply cannot win an Ehlers trade.

too much drama in those statements.

The truth is that there are very few good reasons to trade Ehlers. One would be a fantastic return (ie. Derozen for Leonard), the second would be if he is judged to be a source of dressing room issues (there are no known public reasons to indicate this).

I think Ehlers will remain a jet. Throwing his name out there is more disrupting any complacency that is creeping in and creating a little more edge in his approach. He wasn't as fiesty in 2018/19 as in previous seasons.

Exactly, why would they want to trade an exciting player with a super contract. Dumb!

Wondering if it might be (leaking his name out there) just a smoke screen to set up a bigger deal? Certainly hope so. Sad day here if Nik is dealt.

I’m commenting on the Ehlers for a Pesce speculation, and don’t forget, peace has an excellent contract.

Pesce improves our overall team more than Ehlers.

Ask yourself, if you take away both Trouba and Ehlers which player will this team miss more and which player do we have the “potential” to replace with our current line up.
Hint, if your answer was Ehlers, you were wrong.
There is a better chance Connor, Roslovic Vesalainen can improve to make up the loss of play driving and offence Ehlers brings than Stanley, Poolman, morrow making up for the loss of Trouba.

I am not sure the window slams shut but I agree it will it will be selling low. Locked up in his prime, speed, speed and speedy, 6 mill, just makes no sense to trade him. Please do not trade him.

Ok, if a Leonard with a good contract is coming back, maybe but if Chevy is doing a Taylor Hall for Larrson because we need a Dman, then ready the tar and feathers.

The Jets are stockpiled at wing. Wheeler, Connor, Roslovic, Ehlers, Laine, Vesalianen, Appleton and the list could go on. The Jets need center depth. It does not make sense to keep Ehlers if the Jets are intending on signing Connor and Laine. I would be all in for trading Laine and keeping Ehlers, however it appears that organization would rather keep Laine and trade Ehlers.

It is what it is.

Agree with Ultimate

Trade Laine.
Rexypoo you said that Conner is the least valuable of the 3. If that's true the return for him is not high enough. That leaves Laine to get a stud d-man in return.

Plus we also know Roslovic is ticked at the Jets right now about ice time. My guess Vesalainen wasn't too happy about his 6:50 of ice time he got last year. Jets have to open up a spot for the young guys, seeing as how we can't get rid of Lowry, Copp and Perreault according to most of the people posting here.

I agree that the Jets would be very unlikely to get a player in return for Ehlers that would be better than him. The Trouba trade saved money but got back a 5/6 d-man who will want $4 mil per. They better hit a home run with that 20th pick.

Ehlers improves our team more than all but like 10 dman last year. Pesce is great, but the deal is Ehlers for Pesce+ if it’s to be good

We could have had Nick Suzuki too, if we had decided on keeping our pick and sacrificed Enstrom to Vegas. Depending on how Nik's career goes, it will always be a cause of wonder if he could have been our own in-house solution as our number 2 center.

6.0 175 lbs. He'll thickened up a bit yet. Interesting quotes on elite Prospects. Mostly good.
